Tennis Season
End of summer means a few things: back to school (see below), the West Indian Day Parade, and perhaps most importantly, the US Open kicks into gear in Queens. While we haven’t been able to follow as closely as we used to, there are a few players/storylines we’ve been following.
First, Ben Shelton. He dropped out of college and has been on a tear, and is currently in the quarterfinals, and has the fastest serve of the tournament so far at 149 MPH (!). Shelton is sponsored by Swiss shoe brand On, where Roger Federer is a major player/investor. No pressure!
Also, look at his background. This is the bio of someone who will probably be good at tennis:
Taylor Fritz, another American that just landed in the quarterfinals, is perhaps most famous for his girlfriend who has become a niche tennis box influencer:
What began in early 2022 with her trying on outfits for the Australian Open on TikTok (a video that has since been viewed 1.5 million times) has evolved into her being hired by Wimbledon to host “Wimbledon Threads,” a video series on fashion at the tournament. This summer, she released two pieces of gold-plated jewelry — a bracelet ($125) and necklace ($175), each with a tennis-racket charm — in collaboration with a small New York jewelry company called Lottie.
Coco Gauff, who Noemi loves to watch play and just say “Coco” over and over, and who now asks where Coco is when we go by the tennis courts in our local park, is also in the quarterfinals, one of two US women still in the draw. She is wearing her own signature mid-top sneaker, with a nice faux chain stitch detail on the tongue.
And then there is Venus Williams, who was a wild card entry this year:
Per her stylist, she wanted her entrance to rival the NBA walks that have become huge style moments. She was wearing Willy Chavarria and Alaïa.
Back to School/Back to Office
It’s labor day weekend, and while we haven’t had a true back to school moment in a long time, Noemi is starting her first day of preschool today. And after not being in the office for most of August, WFH is turning into RTO for us. So in the spirit of getting ready for apple picking, Halloween and (European) football season, here is some inspiration:

Trouble at Supreme
Supreme, the OG underground streetwear brand that was acquired by private equity beheamouth Carlyle in 2017, which later flipped it to VF (owner of The North Face, Vans & Timberland) in 2020 for $2B+, has been embroiled in controversy the past week.
It’s now former creative director, Tremaine Emory, is most well known for his cotton wreath motif (seen here with a Levi’s collab) and his David Hammons Converse. He recently resigned from the company after alleging systemic racism and specifically that it was averse to releasing parts of his most recent collection:
In an interview, Emory confirmed his resignation, saying that his decision to leave last month came after Jebbia removed images of a lynching and a formerly enslaved person from a forthcoming collaboration with visual artist Arthur Jafa without telling Emory.
Despite Emory’s allegations, some creatives have questioned the wisdom of selling t-shirts to mostly white teenagers with images of lynchings and slavery-era lacerations:
