Memorial Day Tennis Capsule
We’re launching a small Memorial Day Tennis Club capsule collection to get you all in the mood for summer. Particularly like how this tote bag came out:
Hope to see some of you on the Upper West Side clay courts this summer!
Gossip Girl Trailer
The new Gossip Girl reboot has an official launch date: July 8. It will be on HBO Max, and the trailer for it is now live:
The new trailer is dark and moody, a far cry from the campy original. The set photos have looked good so far and we hope the new episodes don’t stray too much from the classic Serena van der Woodsen years.
Whenever we are uptown, we still connect landmarks back to the show. We walked by the Empire Hotel last week, and of course brought up Chuck Bass.
Bottega Williamsburg
In Bottega Veneta news, they opened a pop up shop on Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn:
As WWD reports, it’s Daniel Lee’s first proper store in NYC. The palatial Upper East Side location was designed by his predecessor Tomas Maier, and while the store has been cleaned up, it does not feel quite like the New Bottega.
As Williamsburg and Greenpoint continue to gentrify, we’d expect more luxury players like Bottega to move across the East River into Brooklyn. We’re planning on stopping by to check out the new space soon.
Summer Books Recs
It’s Memorial Day Weekend, which means it’s officially summer beach read season. We can never get through everything but it’s always fun to make a list each year. I am really going to try and finish Elena Ferrante’s Neopolitan Novels; Raquel finished them last year, and is on to The Lying Life of Adults. I am woefully behind in the Ferrante department, and it’s my fault we haven’t been able to watch Season 2 of My Brilliant Friend.
On both our lists is Naoise Dolan’s Exciting Times. It follows an Irish expat teaching English in Hong Kong, and has naturally been compared to both the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy and Sally Rooney’s work.
In the non-fiction world, Raquel wants to read Lifespan: Why We Age and Why We Don’t Have To. The premise is that aging is a disease, and that it can be treated, slowed down or even reversed.
And I’m excited to finally read Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley. We like to read heavier content when its sunny, plus it’s nice to imagine the Italian Riviera when sitting on the beach at Robert Moses State Park.
If you have anything you’re excited to read this summer, drop a note in the comments. :)
Ariana Grande’s Wedding Ceremony
Ariana Grande’s wedding photos were splashed all over Instagram this week. She got married at her home in Montecito with 20 close family and friends.
News to us: Grande’s trademark flourish is to have something upside down, to remind her of lower moments in life. At her wedding, this meant having an earring with an inverted diamond and pearl, to match her engagement ring.
