Shopping Report, 100 Thieves x Gucci, Valentino FW21 Couture, Phoebe Philo & Olivia Rodrigo at the White House
Clockwise from Top.
Shopping Report
We’ve been looking for some new hats to wear outside. Not just a twill dad hat, but actual baseball team hats. This MOMA one perennially pops up around NYC, but last week at the coffee window in our neighborhood we saw this excellent Yankees/Mets combo hat.
Even better, we recently discovered the NY LA hat from Holiday Brand. Immediate add to cart.
Raquel is always on the hunt for Bermuda shorts, with her main inspiration being this scene from When Harry Met Sally. She likes these Mara Hoffman ones to wear to the tiki bar this summer.
Gucci x 100 Thieves
Gucci has been busy making moves outside of the traditional luxury fashion world. They have expanded into film and food, and have been very active in digital space. For example, the recently partnered with Roblox, and online gaming platform with its own digital currency.
This week they announced a partnership with 100 Thieves, a merchandise line from a popular e-sports player with investments from the likes of Drake and Bernard Arnault.
The preview is here:
We have to say, this is a big step up from what 100 Thieves looks like currently. It looks like a pretty basic merch line at the moment, but based on Haag’s clout they are partnering with Gucci.
As we’ve said before, it’s smart for Gucci to start looking for growth outside of the traditional fashion world, as the lines between brands/fashion/culture continue to blur.
Valentino Fall 21 Couture
The Fall 21 Couture season is wrapping up, and Valentino’s show in Venice was what the Italian’s would call 🤌
Lots of great stuff, including the Pepto Bismol Pac Man look:
And these Seussian ostrich hats:
Pierpaolo Piccioli is definitely having fun in the studio. Plus - following Balenciaga’s lead from last week - plenty of Men’s couture looks! How ‘bout this cardigan, for example.
Phoebe Philo’s Return
The é is back. Philo, the much beloved designer behind Celine when it was Céline, announced that she will be launching her own namesake brand in January. Outside of that, information is quite hard to come by:
“Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling,” Ms. Philo said in the announcement. “I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere.”
It’s a fun parlor game to speculate what this will look like. Will it be Céline under another name? Something entirely different?
The news included an announcement that LVMH owns a minority stake in the nascent brand. It’s notable to us that LVMH is not launching Phoebe Philo’s brand as a true equal to some of its other houses like Marc Jacobs. They are taking a conservative approach, and even Philo will have to prove herself again before LVMH makes a full acquisition.
Olivia Rodrigo at the White House
With COVID rates rising again, the Biden White House enlisted Gen Z star Olivia Rodrigo to help encourage vaccinations in teenagers. She didn’t show up in a boring pant suit, but in vintage Chanel:
From SS95, specifically. As Nylon noted, it’s a real Cher Horowitz move and one we support!

Hauser & Wirth’s beautiful Menorca location is now open.
Shein is now the largest US fast-fashion retailer, now topping H&M and Zara.
Van Leeuwen’s Kraft Mac and Cheese flavored ice cream 🤮
A love letter to the bad girls of 90’s TV who never got the story lines they deserved.
This BAPE x Coach x Megan Thee Stallion capsule is pretty good actually.
Cool things to buy according to teens.
