Zara Buys
Just because, here’s Raquel’s Zara buys from last week. We won’t be keeping everything though :)
Links here, here, here and here.
Lit Merch
Sally Rooney has a new novel coming out called Beautiful World, Where Are You. While galley copies have been circulating, the real flex is getting your hands on the tote bag, which someone sold for $80 on Ebay:
The publishing world has been losing their collective mind over who has and doesn’t have the tote bag:
For those of you without an advance copy, Beautiful World, Where Are You comes out next month.
Luxury Sustainability
Gucci has released a new collection that is meant to address the environmental impact of the fashion industry:
Gucci Off The Grid uses recycled, organic, bio-based and sustainably sourced materials.
The design itself isn’t particularly exciting, mostly basics. But behind each piece is a sourcing and production story. For example, for this bucket hat, Gucci uses (1) recycled nylon from ECONYL®, (2) trims made from alternatively-tanned leather and (3) cellulose sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Gucci Off The Grid is part of the Gucci Circular Lines, and we would expect to see additional collections created under Circular Lines. We would LOVE to see more luxury brand appealing to the eco-conscious consumer in Gen Z. We’d also love to see this level of thought put into all of Gucci’s pieces, not just the “sustainable” capsule.
Larry David’s August in Martha’s Vineyard
Barack Obama caught heat for hosting a big 60th birthday party in Martha’s Vineyard last week. When he had to reduce the guest list, it even made it into Tatler, the only former president who is considered a real celebrity.
We loved Larry David’s reaction to hearing he was cut from the guest list:
When he got a call from the former president’s assistant, Larry David (who has a home on the island) figured he was going to be asked to perform. He went into a tailspin, trying to think of what routine he could come up with in three days. “I was pretty glum when I finally called back his assistant,” David said in an email. “When he told me I was eighty-sixed from the party, I was so relieved, I screamed, ‘Thank you! Thank you!’ He must have thought I was insane. Then I hung up the phone, poured myself a drink and finished my crossword puzzle.”
David also got into a shouting match with Alan Dershowitz at the Chilmark General Store over the Harvard professor’s support of Donald Trump. As one on looker recounted to Page Six:
Dershowitz: “We can still talk, Larry.”
David: “No. No. We really can’t. I saw you. I saw you with your arm around [former Trump Secretary of State Mike] Pompeo! It’s disgusting!”
We imagine all of these conversations in extreme Larry David accent and with the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme playing in the background.
Micro Trend Alerts
We have been seeing A LOT of green in the marketplace recently. Bottega has been leading the charge with their parakeet green:
Others have followed suit, like David Koma, Staud and Baggu.
And practically every sneaker collection I saw for SS22 had a strange off color green hero colorway. Think this Salomon x and wander from a few seasons ago:
We also saw this Bleue Burnham ring that he is doing as a Mr. Porter exclusive:
We think we will see more jewelry designers with engraved, streetwear inspired text on their rings. It’s like a graphic tee in solid metal!
