Party Down
We started re-watching Party Down this month, which originally aired on Starz for two seasons in 2009/2010. It follows a group of caterers in LA, and stars Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Martin Starr and Lizzy Caplan. It’s absolutely hilarious, especially the first season with Jane Lynch. We learned that Starz is bringing it back for a 6 episode run, and wanted to catch up. Though it’s unclear when they are going to be able to get the ensemble cast together now that they all have hit it big:
The cast is so busy these days that finding a window where we can do it may require trigonometry, but we’re determined to make it happen.
Raquel wants us and Noemi to dress as Party Down caterers for Halloween this year.
Fashion Week Part I
An in-person New York Fashion Week was back, with a relatively full roster. Thom Browne had its usual band of acolytes, and some interesting make up. Between the thanaka and male skirts, their SS22 show had a distinctly Burmese feel to it.
And in a sign the fashion world sees light at the end of the COVID tunnel, Carolina Herrera was back showing occasion wear.
We really liked her all-over print dress:
And this shower cap dress that finished out the show:
We also have to point out Larry David plugging his ears at the Staud show, and hanging with Timothée Chamalet.
Shopping Hermès
Raquel started a new job last month (Old Navy!) and decided to treat herself to Hermès. We stopped by the beautiful Upper East Side maison, which is much of an equestrian store than one might expect. She picked up the Oran Sandal, and got to learn a little bit about how one gets on the waiting list for a Birkin Bag. You can only order through a sales associate, and not through the website or over the phone. Now that Raquel has established a relationship with the shop, and is saved in their CMS, she’s able to get on the list when she’s ready. And doesn’t have use a celebrity’s name to jump the waitlist, like Samantha on Sex and the City.
Fashion Week Part II
Meanwhile, over in Europe, the big luxury brands started showing their SS22 collections. Prada and Jil Sander both had in person runway shows, with plenty of slouch, leather jackets and the odd tiger print.
The most fun was Juergen Teller for JW Anderson’s presentation.
The entire lookbook was shot at a tire yard. It looks different, something that is rare these days.
Met Gala
After a long hiatus, the Met Gala came back in the untraditional month of September. At this point, the Costume Institute theme is almost inconsequential (technically, it’s In America: A Lexicon of Fashion). What really matters is what everyone wears to the fundraiser. AOC wore a Tax The Rich dress, which feels a little off brand considering she sent the entire night hanging out with The Rich. Frank Ocean wore Prada x Homer (and brought a doll?). Evan Mock was in punk Thom Browne. Kim Kardashian’s outfit was the most talked about. As you can imagine, there were plenty of memes for this.
P.S. It’s been a crazy few weeks for us. We should be back on a regular schedule now.

A very good entry in the Grubstreet Diet series; cosign on River Deli.
