Meena Harris & Phenomenal
Vice President Kamala Harris’s niece, Meena Harris, has been selling not-so-great, under designed t-shirts for some time now. Her merch has gotten some traction, especially recently, given that her Aunt is in the White House. There is also a book club vertical where Harris makes recommendations to her followers. To her credit, Harris has started to de-emphasize the family political connections to avoid the appearance of any conflicts.
THR broke news this week that Harris and Phenomenal are going to be expanding further, from merch/books into stories and content. The focus will continue to be on equity and under represented voices:
the company’s content slate, [] will include scripted and unscripted programming across film, TV, podcasts and digital media, as well as its just-launched book club, which counts Nikole Hannah-Jones’ The 1619 Project and its kids’ companion Born On The Water as its first picks.
We find it impressive that Harris has turned essentially a t-shirt brand into a full scale content producer, and have no doubt that she will find success getting her stories told. With the rise of streaming video, there is a huge need for new content, and Harris/Phenomenal have found a unique niche. She is setting herself up for success in a post-VP Harris world.
We chat more about Harris, Phenomenal and her production company on this week’s podcast.

New Khruangbin Album
Long time readers know that we’ve been listening to Houston’s Khruangbin for a while now. When we were locked inside in the early COVID days, our end-of-the-work-day album that transitioned us into cocktail hour was The Universe Smile Upon You (Apple Music Link, Spotify Link). And when we thought we were moving to Texas, we had Texas Sun (Apple Music Link, Spotify Link) on repeat.
Well, they are back with another EP, this time called Texas Moon (Apple Music Link, Spotify Link). Like Texas Sun, it features the very excellent Leon Bridges.
If like us you are into the twang funk combo, check out their new album!

Lots of pinstripes to go around here, both of the suiting variety as well as in New York Yankees caps, a not-so-subtle nod to Ralph’s Bronx childhood.
