Sofia Coppola
Raquel and I had a short conversation the other day that centered around the question of how busy Sofia Coppola is. I thought she lived an easy, effortless life: some writing, hanging out in Nolita, possibly popping out to buy fresh flowers1. Making a film every five years of so. Raquel thought she was just as busy as the rest of us.
As always, Raquel is right. She apparently wrote Priscilla, her new film, in a week while she was home sick for a week. And she still struggles to get financing for her films, despite the massive critical success she has had.
And on top of promoting her new film, she is launched a knitwear collaboration on last week! I was not familiar with Barrie, but they look like a Scottish Elder Statesman. Think very pricey cashmere. The one asset available looks like something Scarlett Johansson’s character in Lost In Translation would wear.
Phoebe Philo
We’ve linked to this many times at this point, but Phoebe’s first collection as an independent designer is out on her e-commerce shop. Basically everything is sold out at this point, with the shoes and accessories selling fastest. We assume they are working on restocking as we speak.
Our favorite piece - the “Mum” jewelry is gone - sad! As are the very good and very pointy sunglasses.
The hinge ring lasted a few days longer:
If you want a piece of the collection, it’s most the really expensive pieces left, like this $12K tasseled bomber:
Our AI Future
There is a concern that artificial intelligence is going to take jobs away from regular people, who, unlike our future AI overlords, need to take breaks to eat, sleep and spend time with their families.
Except, if you’re a certain A-List celebrity, you can license your personality to Meta for their chatbot experiment. Currently Kendall Jenner and Tom Brady’s likenesses have ben cloned and turned into digital chatbots the public can interact with. And Jenner and Brady receive a large fee for this.
Meanwhile, my Instagram DMs from Raquel is filled with links to all sorts of gadgets that seem straight out of the Jetsons: like this Brava toaster oven, or coffee maker.

It’s getting too expensive to have fun.
There is a quote of hers about this someplace, which I can’t seem to find.
